Youth Soccer Program Prek-6th grade

The Glenburn Rec Dept has a youth soccer program for children age 3 - 6th grade.  Hard to believe summer is almost gone and it’s time to start gearing up for another great season!

It's a great program with approx 120 children participating, but not a lot of adults and we need more of you.  If you love the game of soccer, please consider signing up to coach when you register your child.  If you don't have a child in the program but want to help with our youth programs, as a coach or official, simply stop by the town office and ask for a coach/ref application.  We would love to have you, it's a great way to stay young & involved with the community!

REGISTRATION is available for the 2017-18 season, now through August 31, 2017 at the Glenburn Town Office.  After the Sept 1 deadline, registrations are only accepted if there is room on the team for that age group, and there is a $10 late fee applied.  Don't delay and sign up today!

COACHES NEEDED!  We need volunteers, like yourselves, to make our programs a success. **As parents of a child (ren) in the programit is expected of you to step forward and help run the programs, the parent volunteers are vital to our programs' successes.

The following positions are required per team; head coach, asst coach, at least 1 referee & 1 concession worker, without coaches & referees teams can’t play or practice, and without concession volunteers we cannot quench your thirst, or provide you with a snack. It’s much easier on everybody’s busy schedules if there are 2-3 adults per team then if it’s just one person, plus the most important piece, is the children get more out of a season if there are multiple coaches than just one trying to work with a whole team, and the same goes for the concession stands. The more volunteers that come forward, the easier it is on everyone and the better we can serve you!

I hope you will seriously consider being one of those volunteers and step forward to lend a hand, it’s a great way to role model to your young athletes the importance of volunteering, being involved in community and help keep the programs growing strong.  Volunteer & Background Applications are available at the town office and MUST be filled out & completed by August 25. Once the applications are in and approved our director will assign the online trainings to help prepare you to work with groups of children. The children do appreciate any time you can give, and without you, they cannot play.

Referee Class - Sept 13 at the Rec fields from 6-7pm;  All 7th graders & older are encouraged to stay involved with our programs by learning how to ref the younger kids games.  We need adults for this role as well to offer support during game times.

Coach mtg information

Any parents or adults, interested in coaching for the upcoming soccer season need to fill out a volunteer application form & a background check application form.  They are provided at the town office along with the player registrations. The applications & background checks need to be completed before anyone can begin. There are also some online trainings' that our volunteer coaches need to complete on their own time from home.  Completion reports are sent to the director in order to track your completion progress.

Our programs do not run without great volunteers, at the same time we need to make sure our volunteers are qualified to work with the children by supplying some training to ensure that is the case.  It is a great way to stay involved with our young community, and keep young yourself.  Please stop by and fill out an app today.  You do NOT need to be a mom or dad, just need to have an interest in working with young athletes and having fun.

The coach meeting will be held Sept 5, 2017 at 6:30pm at the Glenburn School CAF. The meeting will involve introductions to each other, open table discussion to go over expectations of coaches & parents, rule discussion, what works, what doesn't, scheduling, Kick of Day, and more its a great way to start the season as a group.  Hope to see some new faces along with our faithful returning coaches.

JR Soccer Referee Class

Saturday Sept 13 @ 6-7pm at the Glenburn Rec Fields

Searching for responsible 7th grade & older players & adults, who would like to help give back to the game & youth program that gave to them, by officiating the younger players soccer games on Saturday mornings.  It's a great experience for these teens to see what it's like wearing the whistle, learning how to be responsible with a schedule, and a sense of community.  Time commitment is 1-2 games per Saturday starting at 9am should be done by noon.

We had a good crew last year, hoping they return along with some new ones, this year.
